Brazilian powerhouse brings feminist funk explosion to Roskilde Festival

Also known as the "Queen of Flows", MC Dricka is a huge star in her native Brazil where her sweaty rhythms, raw vocals and political lyrics have become a major cultural force.

Her artistic starting point is Brazilian funk carioca or baile funk, which is more than just a music genre, but a party culture and a transformative social force emanating from the impoverished favelas of Rio de Janeiro, exuding the musical soul of the entire city through samba and dance.

For MC Dricka, baile funk has a liberating activist potential, especially when it comes to creating spaces for minorities like the queer community she belongs to. MC Dricka herself has pushed the boundaries of funk by challenging male-dominated culture and criticizing sexist stereotypes in the genre. In MC Dricka's socially conscious songs, funk becomes a source of empowerment for women and minorities, and she has paved the way for a wave of female baile funk artists.

MC Dricka's hits have millions of streams and she is highly respected as one of the innovators of baile funk. In 2024, her acclaimed album Caldeirão was released, paving the way for greater international attention with a stunning mix of funk, rap and trap, and featuring MC Dricka collaborating with producer genius Arca and others.

MC Dricka’s visits to Europe have been very rare. It is therefore with great pride that we can present her first ever Danish concert, when Roskilde Festival this summer will finally have the opportunity to dance along to MC Dricka's funk explosion.
