Many music lovers had a revelation in 2024 by clicking into Argentinian duo Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso's live session for the Tiny Desk video channel. The spark, humor and creative energy that flows out of the two musicians and their big band on the recording is so liberating and infectious that the video became one of 2024's biggest viral music phenomena.
Musically the video shows a duo experimenting with a sound that blends trap, funk, Latin pop, soul and more – boundless yet deeply musical. And their Tiny Desk session has had fans proclaiming them to be a kind of Latin version of the likes of Anderson Paak.
Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso didn't come out of nowhere. Separately, the two musicians have been making their mark in Argentina's alternative music scene for several years, just like they have released a string of sharp singles as a duo since 2018 before finally releasing their debut album BAÑO MARÍA in 2024. An album which was boosted significantly by the duo's viral sensation on Tiny Desk.
The album showcases the more electronic side of Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso's experimental cocktail of Latin, trap and funk, and demonstrates how many directions they can take their sound. There's no doubt that they are a firework display of groove and nerve on stage, and it will be a sweaty party when they visit Roskilde Festival with a full band.
