With the smash hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and two prominent features on Beyoncé's groundbreaking Cowboy Carter album, Shaboozey has established himself as a powerful voice on today's music scene. A songwriter whose unique blend of country, folk, blues and hip-hop manages to mine the essence of American music culture and mold it into compelling songs.
Shaboozey has Nigerian roots but grew up in Virginia to the sounds of hip-hop, R&B and country/blues acts like Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Lead Belly. In 2018, he released his debut album, Lady Wrangler, and that same year reached many listeners via the Duckwrth collaboration "Start a Riot," which was featured on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack.
His unique fusion of hip-hop and country, elevated by a great voice, powerful lyrics and catchy melodies, reached new heights on his third album Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going from 2024. As Pitchfork wrote: “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going epitomizes not a one-hit wonder but a songwriter who has found both his mode and his moment at the exact same time.”
Together with Beyoncé, Shaboozey has bridged the gap as a black artist who has topped the major country charts. The rest of the album lives up to the hype. "Shaboozey brings hip-hop grit to country" wrote the New York Times about the album, which has brought Shaboozey into the heavy musical league. He is a voice for the times, and now he brings his captivating songs to Roskilde Festival.
