With sublime sound, poetic nerve and graceful interplay, the young trio Stundom breathes new life into old Nordic folk music traditions.
The trio, consisting of the outstanding musicians Emma Elmøe (violin), Villads Hoffmann (cittern) and Julian Svejgaard (piano), create sumptuous soundscapes with simple tools and a gripping sense of melody, where the close and organic interplay is paramount. Stundom manages to combine the acoustic presence of folk music with an almost chamber music-like grace and a dreamy melancholy that opens up a magical universe for the audience.
After releasing their acclaimed debut album, Må jeg holde din hånd? (2021), Stundom had the honor of opening First Days at Roskilde Festival in 2023 with their beautiful tones. Since then, they have released their masterpiece Hvis ikke de er døde, lever de endnu, which was named one of the best albums of the year in Danish newspaper Dagbladet Information.
The album title (meaning: “if they are not dead, they are still alive”) is inspired by a fixed formula in old folktales. A trio with their feet firmly planted in Nordic folk music traditions, Stundom invites the audience on wondrous adventures where folklore and archetypes are combined with impressions of modern reality and ecocritical perspectives. We look forward to experiencing Stundom's imaginative folk music at Roskilde Festival again this summer.
