Many have tried to unite the electrifying energy of rock and the melodies of folk music over the years, but rarely has it been done as dazzlingly as when the acclaimed folk trio Ævestaden and the psychedelic rock trio Kanaan merge into a cosmic whole.
Both bands have received high praise for their accomplished expression. Now they are embarking on new adventures together with their stunning collaborative album Langt, langt vekk (2024). The album is like an acid trip where mesmerising vocal harmonies, hypnotic krautrock drums, fuzzy psych guitar and folk instruments such as violin, lyre, Jew's harp and cow horn create a truly stunning soundscape.
The audience is transported from medieval dances and ancient hymns to psychedelic headbanging and pure trance atmosphere in a universe that connects the deep past and trippy future music, but which also owes a significant debt to 70s acid folk and krautrock.
Since the release of the album, Kanaan and Ævestaden have toured Europe and impressed with concerts where all six musicians appear as a symbiotic whole in strong interplay that embraces both meditative moments and pure musical power. A rare live experience that is now coming to Roskilde Festival.
