"Being crushed underneath this album is one of the great musical experiences of the year." The Guardian's conclusion was clear in a superb review of Kentucky quintet Knocked Loose's latest brutal masterpiece, You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To, from 2024.
The music critics were far from alone in their praise of the band, who with this album have comes across as one of the leading bands on the hardcore and metalcore scene right now. The Needle Drop’s Anthony Fantano also highlighted the release as one of the most important metalcore albums of recent years, calling it "the next step for the genre".
The band has been praised for combining the raw and aggressive energy of hardcore music with a strong sense of melody, catchy grooves, and inventive musical interjections that keep the expression interesting and varied. At the same time, Knocked Loose brings a unique sound to the genre, not least thanks to Bryan Garris' distinct vocals.
The band has managed to bring an uncompromising expression to a wide range of listeners, including when they performed the song "Suffocate" on Jimmy Kimmel Live in collaboration with Poppy. The same song was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The band has been around since 2013, which is evident in their tight on-stage interplay, where they create a cathartic concert experience with a unique energy level. Now it's Roskilde Festival's turn to be shaken up by Knocked Loose's metalcore innovations.
