Rooted in Lebanon's alternative music scene, the sextet Sanam has gained international recognition with their debut album Aykathani Malakon from 2023.
The band came together for a special project for the Beirut festival Irtijal curated by German krautrock legend Hans Joachim Irmler (Faust). Since then, they have continued to work on their own, developing a distinctive sound that takes the form of a collective musical ritual with elements of post-rock, free improvisation, Middle Eastern folk music and Arabic poetry.
The result is rooted in Middle Eastern traditions, while the musicians strive for an almost hallucinatory and cosmic atmosphere that fans of krautrock will recognize. The album, mixed by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem in My Heart), was recorded live without overdubs and thus gives a good picture of the collective energy that Sanam brings to their concerts.
This energy was also well documented when the band released their first live album from a concert at the legendary London venue Café Oto this year. Now it will finally be possible to experience them on Danish soil when they hit Roskilde this summer.
