SATURDAY 5 JULY

Posthuman dream pop from visionary musical chameleon

  • Saturday 5 July

Behind the name Yeule is non-binary Singaporean artist Nat Ćmiel, whose music has been described as “dream-pop perfection” by The Fader. However, despite a clear fondness for genres such as dream-pop, shoegaze and 90s alternative rock, Yeule’s multifaceted expression transcends narrow definitions.

Since the age of 14, Yeule has been releasing their own songs and has built a cult following. Much like a modern-day David Bowie, Yeule moves chameleon-like through a range of identities and styles, creating a space to explore both their own identity and the digitized era we live in.

It is music that ambitiously explores the digital glitches that arise in the soul's encounter with technology, as on Yeule's grandiose 2022 masterpiece, aptly titled Glitch Princess. An album that truly challenged conventional thinking with a closing ambient track lasting almost 5 hours. The album was praised by critics. Line of Best Fit wrote: "Yeule breaks boundaries and shines in all styles".

Since then, Yeule has signed with Ninja Tune and, in 2023, released the album softscars, where influences from alternative rock and even metal clearly shine through. Their new album Evangelic Girl is a Gun will be released before the festival, and judging by the singles, we can expect to be drawn into Yeule’s futuristic dream world.
