"Gróa might just be the most exciting live band in Iceland right now" wrote The Line of Best Fit recently, and with their experimental and energetic sound, the Reykjavik band has long since made an international impression.
The band draws great inspiration from the angular and searching soundscapes of classic post-punk, but the music also opens doors to modern noise rock, art pop and almost math rock-infused rhythms that keep the audience captivated.
The three young musicians convey an almost symbiotic energy on stage, and they have created great excitement at international festivals and at their live session for KEXP. They play with a rare sense of urgency, and they make no secret of the fact that for them music is a channel for liberation – and the audience is invited to join in.
Gróa released their self-titled debut album in 2018 and quickly became a phenomenon on the Icelandic punk scene. The hype has grown steadily thanks to several strong releases. This spring, the band will release their new album Drop P, and the new material is sure to set off a powerful punk party at Roskilde Festival.
