Not only have Nine Inch Nails set a towering standard for modern industrial music. The band's music also stands as a multifaceted work of art that continues to expose both the dark nightmares of the soul and the ills of civilization.
American Trent Reznor, the chief architect of Nine Inch Nails' bleak sound, has since their groundbreaking 1989 debut, Pretty Hate Machine, unfolded a musical vision with room for dark atmospheres, introspective melancholy, almost anthemic songs and brutal sonic assaults on the listener.
This diversity has not only spawned countless classics and left its mark on popular culture, with Nine Inch Nails' influence heard in rock, metal, electronica and film scores. It has also turned Nine Inch Nails' concerts into violent and almost cathartic seances, which we have witnessed several times at Roskilde Festival. Most recently in 2018, when Nine Inch Nails delivered a blast of a concert.
Since 2016, Nine Inch Nails has operated as a duo, which in addition to Reznor includes multi-instrumentalist and producer Atticus Ross. In this line-up, the band has released acclaimed albums such as 2018's Bad Witch and 2020's double release Ghosts V and Ghosts VI. Meanwhile, Reznor and Ross have set high standards for film scores, most recently winning a Golden Globe for their score for the film Challengers.
Nine Inch Nails continue to hold the creative torch high and have teased in interviews that they are currently working on new material. Now they are ready to shake Roskilde Festival once again with their monumental soundscape and intense live show.
