For fans of doom-heavy riffs and raw sound, it's hard to ignore American band Thou, who since forming in Baton Rouge in 2005 have held the torch high as explorers of the darkest corners of music.
The band draws inspiration from the monumental heaviness of classic doom metal, the desperate nerve of grunge and the desperate screams of black metal. A combination that has earned them a solid fan base. Their fans have enjoyed the fact that Thou are both highly productive and manage to keep the bar extremely high. On release after release, they manage to set new heavy standards while challenging themselves. In 2024, they released the acclaimed album Umbilical, which shows the band in top form.
Thou also stand out as an inclusive band, having collaborated with a wide range of artists from Emma Ruth Rundle and The Body to Ragana and The Hirs Collective, who visited Roskilde Festival in 2024. Thou have also been artists in residence at the Roadburn Festival – a hallmark of heavy music lovers.
