Your guide to important conversations

30.06.2024Guides

March for women's rights, be a part of a human banner, and listen to important conversations throughout the festival. We guide you through several of the festival's activist events.

By Rasmus Løwenstein, volunteer journalist

The first day of the festival is over, and while the music on the camping grounds and First Days stages is booming, there are plenty of opportunities to take a break and engage with significant global issues.

Whether you want to listen to debates on various topics or be inspired by performance and installation art, you can find something that will provoke thought and give you a better understanding of the world we live in.

Break sexual taboos

Next to Flokkr, you will find the artist group Sexualia's installation 'Sex Positive Confession Booth'. It is a challenge against the compartmentalization and stigma in sexual preferences and an attempt to create sex positivity and diversity.

Step into the booth, write down your sexual fantasies – let go and free yourself from shame about sexuality. On Tuesday at 11:00, the installation is accompanied by a short talk about the artwork.

March Against the Patriarchy

Join when Dutch-American artist Lara Schnitger invites you to a parade focusing on women's lack of equality and safety in a patriarchal society. The performance is named Suffrogate City, and through two workshops, you have the opportunity to create your own "slut-sticks" to take with you in the parade.

Flokkr, Sunday from 13:30 & Flokkr, Tuesday from 13:00

Dance and create a banner for peace

Actionaid Denmark dives into Palestinian cultural heritage, and you and your camp are invited to share a message of peace and compassion. The dance group Olive Branch will teach you dance steps to traditional folk music, and finally, we will stand together – physically together – in a human banner.

Dancefloor, Monday at 12:00.

Firsthand accounts from refugees

The Red Cross Youth, one of the many recipients of our surplus donations, invites you to hear about life in the world's hotspots. Who are the people stuck in war zones? Refugees from around the world share their letters and music, giving you an understanding of their daily lives that you don't see in the news.

Flokkr, Tuesday at 13:30

Who delivers your fast food?

Swedish artist Axel Berger performs a surrealist performance about the explosion of bike couriers around the world. Berger rides around the camping grounds and festival area in slow motion in an attempt to make you stop and think about the role of bike couriers in a fast-paced daily life.

Flokkr, Monday at 12:45 and Food Is Now, Saturday at 11:15

Where does the fight for women's rights stand?

Get an update on the status of the global women's rights movement when journalist and documentarian Sol A. Wendel, in conversation with activist and women's rights researcher Sahar Fetrat, discusses the current state of women's rights and the challenges it will face in the future.
