Deconstructed noise pop and experimental electronic in magnificent union from Norwegian phenomenon

  • Sunday 29 June

With his ambitious soundscapes, where digital noise, shoegaze-inspired rock and atmospheric pop merge, Fakethias has not only conquered major festival stages in his native Norway. He has also toured the world, performing at leading clubs and festivals such as Sónar Barcelona.

As Fakethias, Oslo-based Mathias Humlen has established himself as one of Norway’s most exciting electronic musicians, with a sound defined by dark moods and noisy textures. Humlen is also the co-producer and DJ for Sushi X Kobe, whose genre-defying hip hop has made them cult favourites on the Norwegian alternative scene, as well as a member of Softcore Untd, known for their playful fusion of jazzy grooves, electronic experiments and pop melodies.

That Mathias Humlen can also stand strong on his own is evident in his 2023 debut album Core Echo, where Fakethias embraces dreamy melodies and shoegaze influences without severing ties to the experimental electronic scene. The transformation continues on the stunning 2024 album Afterimage, which draws the listener into a fever-dream-like world where deconstructed and subversive pop music vibrates between digital glitches and analogue textures.

The fusion of digital and analogue, of experimental club music and dreamy noise rock, also comes to life in his acclaimed live performances—an ambitious set-up featuring a full band, live instruments and immersive electronic soundscapes. Now, it’s Roskilde Festival’s turn to experience his grand musical vision!
